River City Cleaning began with a girl. A girl with a bike on a mission.
Jen Jackson is native to Richmond, Virginia. She’s also a doer. She’s a person who likes to roll up her sleeves and get the job done, while leading by example.
After growing up in Hanover County (about 30 minutes outside of Richmond), Jen Jackson received a degree in Biology from James Madison University. She briefly lived in Oregon and West Virginia before returning to Richmond. Along the way, her focus has always been on reducing the environmental impacts of how we live and the impact we each can make by changing our daily routines. This led her to study herbal medicine and sustainable agriculture, and she became an avid gardener. She deeply understood that you cannot separate yourself from the natural world, that even in the city you affect the communities of plants, animals, soils, and waterways surrounding you.
Jen’s passion for the environment was at the root of her studies and love of adventures such as cycling, paddling, and backpacking. When the green cleaning company Jen was working for closed down, she decided to combine all of her interests and said, “I’m going to build a bike trailer and clean houses I can bike to.” River City Cleaning was born.
River City Cleaning combined her interests in healthy lifestyles and ecological awareness, and helped her grow more passionate about the amazing community Richmond had to offer. In no time at all, everyone knew what that girl on a bike stood for: Cleaner homes and the right decision. After a few years the company expanded and not all homes were within biking distance; however, she has never strayed from green cleaning practices and providing quality service.
